Our History and Programs

For more than seven years EFS has offered a full menu of services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families – from day-habilitation, to community-based care and independent living. While our service offerings are comprehensive and individualized, the attribute which makes EFS special is our attention to the quality of life of our Clients. We seek not simply to meet basic needs, but rather to help our Clients succeed in life and to thrive, no matter what their ability level may be. We are dedicated to implementing Person Centered Planning by identifying and matching persons with opportunities that meet their self-identified needs and interests, by pinpointing and removing barriers to housing, meaningful activities, employment, and community integration.

EFS owns several properties, one of which is home to its community day programs. The organization is also in the process of transforming several buildings into independent living homes for its Clients.

Our Founder

EFS was founded in 2008 by Ronnetta Whitaker after retiring from a 30 year nursing career. Ronnetta has always had a big heart, especially when it comes to helping people achieve their potential. Having family members with intellectual disabilities taught Ronnetta that their presence in her life was truly a gift and a privilege. She founded EFS with her own modest resources and has helped the organization grow from 0 to 35 employees, serving over 150 Clients, in just a few short years.
